Bihar CM Nitish to meet PM Modi over caste based census

New Delhi, 23/8: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has reached the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a caste census. An 11-member all-party delegation led by CM will meet PM Modi. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, Congress leader Ajit Sharma, Vijay Choudhary from JDU, Janak Ram from BJP, Jitan Ram Manjhi from Hindustani Awam Morcha, Mukesh Sahni from VIP, Mehboob Alam from CPI ML, Akhtarul Iman from AIMIM, CPI Suryakant Paswan from CPM and Ajay Kumar from CPM.
Why is meeting important?
The central government has rejected the demand for caste census, but many parties including BJP’s ally JDU are in favor of conducting caste census. Apart from the opposition and the BJP, the allies of the NDA are together on the demand of caste census. After a long time, a meeting was also held between Tejashwi Yadav and Nitish Kumar. These parties say that the caste census will be able to tell how much population of which caste is there and then it will be easier to make plans for their development accordingly, as well as clear the way for them to be given proper representation in government jobs and educational institutions. . RJD chief Lalu Prasad has even spoken of boycotting the census if there is no caste census. Bihar BJP leaders have been avoiding saying anything explicitly by calling it a matter of the Center.
BJP leaders are also adding population law with caste census, that is why Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Ramsurat Rai from BJP quota said that caste census should also be done and population
Control laws were also made. However, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted that “BJP has never been against caste census, that’s why we have been a part of the resolution passed in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council on this issue. BJP is also included in the delegation of Bihar to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
What do you expect from the meeting?
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed the possibility of getting positive results regarding the meeting with the Prime Minister on the issue of caste census. He said that I don’t think BJP has any problem. There will be talk then the way forward will come out. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav says that “caste census should be done today or later but it has to be done, it is better that it should be done today”. Hindustani Awam Morcha leader Jitan Ram Manjhi says that if the decision on caste census is not taken at the central level, then the state government can conduct caste census at its level. Actually every party is doing politics keeping its vote bank in mind. Political parties are competing to prove themselves as true benefactors of backward castes. This is the reason why parties are taking decisions according to their political convenience to woo the backwards. The meeting regarding the caste census also needs to be seen from this perspective.
