Mamata wins Bhabanipur with record margin of 58,832 votes

Kolkata, 3/10: Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Sunday stormed to victory in the Bhabanipur Assembly by-election with a whooping margin of 58,832 votes, securing her place as the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Her nearest rival, BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal, managed to get only about 26,000 votes and the CPI(M) Srijit Biswas got about 4,000 votes.

Banerjee supremo broke her own record set in the 2011 Assembly bye-election when she became the Chief Minister for the first time and won with a margin of about 54,000 votes.

“I won with 54,000 votes when I contested the by-election in Bhabanipur in 2011. This time have not lost in any ward. Bengal was watching Bhabanipur,” said Mamata.
