Polythene and stale food items seized by team BMC

Bhubaneswar, 27/10 A squad of joint team in a sudden visit to different food stalls and hotels has seized polythene and stale food items. In the afternoon hour today plastic enforcement team and food security team members entered into different food stalls and hotels in Kolathia and SUM Hospital area under South West zone of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). The joint visit of food safety and polythene enforcement was supported by BMC’s central enforcement Squad and Police that destroyed about 40-50 kg of stale and unhygienic food, sweets and seized 12 kilograms of polythene.

Twelve numbers of business units were fined rupees 22,000/- for selling of unhygienic food items and using banned polythene carry bags. The fine amount collected for selling of unhygienic food is rupees 10,000/- and for use of polythene carry bag rupees 12,000/ was collected from the units. Adhering FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS ACT, 2006 and PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT RULE 2016 team BMC is regularly doing awareness and field visits, told BMC representatives.
The food items were packed and destroyed by spraying of phenyl into it so that shopkeepers can’t serve it to anybody. The units were warned not to repeat the violations and to face stringent action.
