Dubai, 16/11: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the list of eight men’s tournaments to be held from 2024 to 2031 and the names of the organizers. 17 member countries submitted their bids to host eight men’s white-ball ICC events to be held from 2024 to 2031. In this, Pakistan has also got the right to host an ICC event this time. Between 2024 and 2031, two ICC ODI World Cups, 4 T20 World Cups and 2 Champions Trophy are to be played. Out of these, Pakistan has got the right to host the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025.
Actually, this is a special occasion for Pakistan, because Pakistan has not hosted any ICC event since the 1996 World Cup final. Security concerns have severely limited the amount of international cricket played in Pakistan for over a decade. The country originally hosted the Champions Trophy in 2008, but it was shifted to South Africa. Then after the 2009 attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore, Pakistan did not get to host any ICC event.
Pakistan had jointly hosted the 2011 World Cup, but due to security reasons, the 2011 World Cup was played jointly only in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. After failing to host or co-host any world events in the 2015–2023 cycle, Pakistan has now got the right to host international cricket in the 2024–2031 cycle.
