SIT formed in the case of hemp sale on Amazon

Mumbai, 12/12: Traders’ organization Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) recently accused the e-commerce major Amazon of selling hemp. Apart from this, CAIT had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged sale of marijuana on Amazon’s platform.

Now the Madhya Pradesh government has constituted an SIT in the matter of supply of hemp through Amazon. Traders body Cat has welcomed the decision. CAT’s National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal appreciated MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MP Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra for this step.

CAT’s National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal expressed his gratitude to the Madhya Pradesh government by tweeting that the Madhya Pradesh government has shown how the government works. CAIT has demanded that the accused Amazon officials should also be arrested immediately on the lines of arresting other accused in this case.

MP Police had registered a case against the officials of Amazon India

In November 2021, the police of Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh registered a case against the executive directors of Amazon India after busting an online hemp sale racket. According to the registered case, hemp was sold under the guise of selling sweetener through Amazon. However, the company said in a statement that it does not allow the sale of illegal products through its platform and is cooperating with the investigation in this matter.
