New Delhi, 15/2: Former Law Minister Ashwani Kumar resigned from the Congress on Tuesday. After leaving the party after being in the Congress for more than four decades, Kumar spoke to a TV channel about his future and said that all options were open to him. Kumar said that the future of the new Congress that has been formed is very bleak. If the party structure itself is not right, then you will have a problem.” The resignation of the senior Congress leader has come just days before the Punjab Assembly elections.
In a conversation about his decision to leave the party, Ashwani Kumar said that this is not a sudden step. Kumar said, “An atmosphere was created in which I felt ignored and unheard and I felt that I would not be able to serve the party the way I wanted to. If I cannot work for the country and the party cannot live with the society, then it is better that I should not impose myself on the party.”

Ashwani Kumar said, “I did not discuss this with the Gandhi family. I did not find it right and necessary to share my feelings with anyone. There is no sense in telling them things that they can’t understand that you have been hurt. When you have decided, then there is no need for further discussion. It lowers your own dignity.”
Regarding Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Kumar said, “I have and will have great respect for Sonia ji. She is sensitive and understands dignity. She knows and understands that senior party leaders are angry. But why should I show my wounds to her when she is not taking any action.”
Before Ashwani Kumar, Congress leader RPN Singh had resigned from the party in Uttar Pradesh. In the recent past, many big leaders of Congress have left the party and joined BJP, in which Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasad are prominent faces. In such a situation, on the question of joining BJP, Ashwani Kumar said, “I have not taken any decision yet. I have not said anything about joining BJP, nor have I formally contacted any BJP leader on this subject. What will be my future, whether I will join any political party or not, I will think about it. But I am not going to leave active politics.
