Tata Sons Chief N Chandrasekharn to lead Air India

Mumbai, 14/9: Tata Sons’ chief N Chandrasekaran has been appointed as the chairman of Air India. The Tata group has announced that Natarajan Chandrasekaran will be the chairman of Air India, his appointment was confirmed by the board on Monday. The Board of Tata Sons has officially appointed N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, as the Chairman of Air India. The board of Tata Sons on Monday approved the appointment of Chandrasekaran as the next chairman of the domestic airline. However, the search for the CEO of Air India is on. In addition, former CMD of General Insurance Corporation Alice Gevarghese Vaidyan and Hindustan Unilever Chairman Sanjiv Mehta have also been inducted as independent directors on the board.

 

In February, Tata Sons Limited re-appointed N Chandrasekaran as its executive chairman for the next five years. The board of Tata Sons, in its meeting held on February 11, 2022, reviewed the last five years and considered reappointment of its executive chairman N Chandrasekaran, the statement said. Ratan N Tata, who was a special invitee to the meeting, also expressed satisfaction over the progress and performance of the Tata group under Chandrasekaran. Tata had on February 14 announced the appointment of Turkey’s Ilker Ayci as CEO and managing director of Air India, after taking over the debt-laden airline in a $2.4 billion equity and debt deal in January. He was appointed CEO and MD of the company. Ilkar is the former chairman of Turkish Airlines and a Turkish businessman. However, earlier this month Ilkar Aisi had refused to become the chief executive officer of Air India as “certain sections of the Indian media” had tried to “colour” his appointment in an undesirable manner
