Bhubaneswar: A female elephant was found dead at a paddy field near Kantalei Dadheisahi under Telkoi Forest Range on Saturday morning. However, the elephant’s cause of death is unclear.as per reports, the deceased elephant, part of a herd that had been wreaking havoc in the area, was found dead under mysterious circumstances. The cause of death remains unclear.The deceased elephant is estimated to be 5-6 years old. Forest guards suspect the elephant died due to infighting between two elephant herds late last night. However, the exact cause remains unclear. The elephant’s body bears deep wounds on its back, stomach and neck.It is learnt that resentment was brewing among locals as a herd of 50 elephants destroyed crops in the locality for quite a long time. Locals had been protesting against the elephant menace.Following the discovery, forest department officials rushed to the scene. The exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examination, revealed sources.
