Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards the partial conclusion of the Digha Jagannath Temple controversy, West Bengal government has relented and removed the term ‘Dham from the name of the temple. According to reports, the government of West Bengal has said that it shall remove the term ‘dham’ from the name of the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha. A lot of protests were seen in Odisha following the Digha temple being called Digha Jagannath Dham. Many people argued that there are only four religious ‘dhams’ of Hindus that is: Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram. So it is prima facie wrong to name the new Jagannath Temple at Digha as ‘Dham’. The in-charge of BJP’s National Information and Technology Department Co-incharge West Bengal Amit Malviya, shared a post on the recent development on his X handle and wrote, “After strong protests from devotees of Prabhu Jagannath, the West Bengal government was forced to quietly remove the misleading ‘Dham’ signage in Digha. This is a significant victory for Hindu unity and a setback to Mamata Banerjee’s divisive agenda. When Hindus stand united, no political manipulation can succeed. Jai Jagannath!”
