Mumbai autorickshaw drivers to face license suspension for refusing short rides

Mumbai: In a first, Mumbai autorickshaw drivers face the fear of their license getting cancelled for refusing trips to customers. The drivers cannot refuse short trips, strict action shall be taken against them if they do so. According to reports, the Mumbai Traffic Police has initiated the process to suspend the driving licenses of as many as 28,800 taxi and autorickshaw drivers for refusing to take passengers on short-distance trips in Mumbai. The same was confirmed by the Mumbai police. The police sources said that the license of auto and cab drivers shall be cancelled if they refuse short trips and put customers in trouble. The traffic police carried out a special drive against taxi and autorickshaw drivers from April 18 to May 2. Action was also taken against them for not wearing proper uniforms or carrying valid permit. Further checks shall be continued in this regard, police sources further added.
