A new AI-driven diagnostic tool will change public health in India. The Amruth Swasth Bharath app was launched by health-tech startup Quick Vitals and it uses face-scanning technology to deliver blood test results under a minute using absolutely no blood. This technology was unveiled at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad, which is a big achievement for India. The app is based on Photoplethysmography (PPG), a technique that detects variations in light absorption through the skin and detects blood volume changes. PPG will measure vital health parameters including blood pressure, oxygen levels, heart rate and stress levels, without the use of any invasive techniques. Harish Bisam, the founder of Quick Vitals noted, “We have made health monitoring as simple as clicking the selfie of the face of person, and we believe that we could fill some of the existing wedges in the health system, especially in underserved communities.” This exciting technology will support new and existing maternal and child health programs. Dr. Ravi Kumar, the superintendent of Niloufer Hospital said, “We will be able to help vulnerable populations, such as children and pregnant women, to detect and diagnose ailments in a timely basis. Amruth Swasth Bharath is safe, quick and useful for children and pregnant women.” The AI tool can assist in the identification of diseases such as anemia and other silent diseases that often goes undetected, particularly in women and children. Dr. Santhosh Kralet, member of the National Medical Commission added “the technology used will make certain that no one is left behind when it comes to health interventions, and it will enable faster diagnosis, similar to people being screened with additional numbers of people.” Quick Vitals stated that data privacy and security is at the forefront of its design, and it follows by all Indian regulatory norms relating to the handling of medical data. Users can register multiple different users on the platform and patient data can only be shared with healthcare providers registered within the platform. The launching of the product at Niloufer Hospital is the company’s intention to scale access to AI-based diagnostics across the country, with Maharashtra in line next for the technology.
