Basavaraju’s family members bring allegations against police over funeral rites

Malkangiri: The Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur police performed the last rites of CPI Mao top leader Basavaraju and 8 others. The police did not hand over their bodies to their family members. It has been over 7 days to the encounter and the bodies had started to rot. The police instead of handing over the bodies to their family members performed the last rites. The police took the due permission of the family members and performed the last rites, informed Narayanpur ASP Chandrakara. The brother of Basavaraju brought in allegations against the Chhatisgarh police over the violation of human rights citing that police is telling lies. He further alleged that the police disobeyed the directions of the High Court and did allow them to take the bodies of the deceased Maoists to their hometown. “We wanted to take the bodies to our hometown. It might have started to decompose but we still wanted to perform the last rites in our home town. The police allowed us to perform the last rites but did not allow us to take the bodies to our home town.”
