Rayagada Launches Awareness Campaign on Lightning and Thunderstorm Safety

Rayagada, May 28, 2025: In a bid to raise awareness about lightning and thunderstorm safety, the Rayagada district administration, in collaboration with the Information and Public Relations Department, launched a special awareness campaign today. District Collector Parul Patwari flagged off a rath (chariot) that will travel to all blocks, gram panchayats, and urban areas in the district to spread awareness on disaster management and safety measures. The campaign aims to educate people on how to stay safe during lightning and thunderstorms, which are common in the region. The rath will cover all parts of the district, disseminating crucial information on disaster preparedness and response. District Collector Patwari emphasized that ensuring the safety of all citizens is the top priority, especially during the monsoon season when lightning strikes are frequent. “We urge everyone to take necessary precautions and stay informed about weather forecasts and warnings,” she said. The launch ceremony was attended by Additional District Collector Naveen Chandra Nayak, Nihar Ranjan Kahar, Gunupur Sub-Collector Kiran Deep Kaur, Rayagada Sub-Collector Ramesh Kumar Jena, Deputy Director and District Information and Public Relations Officer Basant Kumar Pradhan, District Emergency Officer Manoj Kumar Nahak, and other officials. The campaign will be managed by Rajendra Dora, Ranjit Piribaka, and Chandrashekhar Gudla, among others. The district administration’s efforts aim to minimize the risks associated with lightning and thunderstorms, ensuring a safer community for all.
