FICCI Odisha organised an “Awareness on ESG & Sustainable business practices for MSMEs”

FICCI Odisha State Council under the aegis of FICCI Centre for Sustainable Leadership
organised an Awareness Session on ESG & Sustainable Business Practices for MSMEs today
at Bhubaneswar.
Mr Pankaj Satija, Chairman, FICCI Odisha State Council & EIC – FAMD, Tata Steel Ltd
welcomed the dignitaries and guests to the session and introduced everyone to the topic in his
opening remark cited some references from history to set the context on the concept of the
sustainability and its importance and benefits to the MSMEs. Mr Preetish Biswal, Director, PwC
stated that ESC is a comprehensive method which guide the organisation in doing the business
right way and ethical way by highlighting that the small industries are highly vulnerable to the
climate change and the compliance regulations. Mr J K Rath, MD, Mechem mentioned that
ESG is an important topic which is very essential for MSME as well as the community and the
surrounding. He also highlighted that many regulations are made by the government which are
beneficial for industries cost wise which adds to their revenue generation. Engineer NR Sahoo
Chief Environment Engineer, Odisha State Pollution Control Board, while giving importance to
the Idea that growth and sustenance should go hand in hand and also highlighted that growth
and development of a country or a region cannot be completely stopped or hampered but the
focus should be on how to adoption of sustainable ways could be done more efficiently and
effectively. He also mentioned how the consequences when long due the rationality decreases
and in this process the environment suffers and impact the community. He also emphasized that
no business can grow if they continue to be harsh on their surroundings. Mr T S Shanbhogue,
Co – Chairman, FICCI Odisha State Council & Executive Director – Strategic Projects, Odisha,
AM/NS India Ltd while delivering the concluding remarks stated that the future of industry is not
just about growth but also about long term and sustainable growth. The success of a company
is not measured only based on its profitability but also on the impact that they cause on the
society and environment for a very long time.
The Inaugural Session was followed by a Technical Session on “ESG & Sustainable Business
Practices for MSMEs, Mr Rajen Padhi, Commercial Director, B-One Business House moderated
the session which comprised distinguished speakers from industry, academia and consultancy
servies. Mr Anoop Srivastava, Chief Environment, Tata Steel Ltd gave a presentation on “ESG –
From Compliance to Competitive Edge while Mr USR Raju, VP, AM/NS India Ltd presented on
“ESG: Building a better future through responsible practices”. His presentation also included a
remark on ESG is a method to create a chain of sustainable practices for industries. Mr Subrat
Panigrahi, COO, IQEMS touched upon “Your Partner for End-to-End Sustainability Solutions”.
Prof Sutapa Pati, Professor, XIMB, briefed on ESG as a competitive advantage: evolution,
principles and way forward” and briefly delivered an educational speech to the audience. The
session was concluded with a formal vote of thanks from Mr Srihari Patra, Asst. Director &
Head, FICCI Odisha. Over 100 participants were benefited from this capacity building
programme.
