Strict ban on use of the name ‘Press Council’.

SUBARNAPUR—
‘Press Council of India’ is a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India, which was formed in 1978 under the Press Council Act. Its main objective is to ensure the freedom of the press system in the country and to improve the quality of newspapers and agencies. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a ban on the use of this statutory name ‘Press Council’ or its translation in another language, such as ‘Bhartiya Press Parishad’ by any media organization or local association.
If this name is used without the permission of the Central Government, it will be invalid under Section 37(II) of ‘The Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950’ and will be punishable under law. Legal action will be taken against such unauthorized use by any person or organization.
Therefore, all government or private media associations/organizations in Subarnapur district are requested not to use the word ‘Press Council’ in their self-appointed or registered names. Everyone is requested to fully respect this prohibition and follow the rules and regulations, said a notification issued by the District Information and Public Relations Department.
