Sambalpur:(Correspondent) :-Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) commemorated World Environment Day 2025 with the launch of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
The campaign was inaugurated by Shri Uday Anant Kaole, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, who planted a sapling to symbolise the company’s dedication to green initiatives. He was joined by senior officers, including Shri Keshav Rao, Director (HR), Shri PK Patel, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri JK Borah, Director (Technical/Operations), Shri AK Behura, Director (Finance) and Shri Sanjay Jha, Director (Technical/Projects & Planning).
As part of the observance, Shri Kaole unfurled the Environment Flag and administered an environmental pledge to all employees, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility in preserving the planet.
Shri Sanjay Jha read out the message from Shri PM Prasad, Chairman, Coal India Limited, highlighting the significance of the World Environment Day (WED) in fostering a deeper connection between individuals and nature.
In line with the campaign’s objectives, MCL organised various competitions weeklong from 31.05.25 till 05.06.25, including painting, quizzes, best out of waste etc. for different categories for employees, their spouses and children, peripheral people and Self Help Group (SHGs) across operational districts Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sundergarh. Prizes were distributed to the winners, encouraging active participation in competitions and raising awareness about environmental issues. On the WED-2025 theme “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution” & “Mission LiFE”, clean-up drives, webinars, Nukkad Natak, cycles rally were also organized.
Demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development, MCL also signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives with the district administrations of Dhenkanal and Jharsuguda. The company has committed about Rs 18 crores under these three agreements focused on the rejuvenation of natural water bodies, improving groundwater recharge and the development of eco-parks, aiming to enhance local ecosystems and promote environmental education.
MCL’s efforts align with the broader national objectives of increasing green cover and promoting environmental consciousness among communities. The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign, under which MCL aims to plant and distribute 1.5 lakh tree saplings, apart from regular plantation activities serves as a testament to MCL’s dedication to integrating environmental stewardship with community welfare.
