Hirakud:(Correspondent):- Hindalco, Hirakud celebrated the 21-day long 52nd World Environment Day with a grand ceremony at Hindal Club premises. The event was attended by Dr. Satya Narayan Nanda, Regional Officer, Sambalpur Office, Odisha Pollution Control Board, other officers of the Environmental Department, Hindalco Hirakud Unit Head Debashish Mallick, Human Resources Head, Odisha Cluster and Mines Group, Dr. Krishna Padhi was the guest of honour and other guests included Shri Pratap Sahu, Head of Skeletor Plant, Shri Arun Singh, Head of Power Plant, Shri Biswas Shinde, Head of Human Resources, Hindalco, Ranjan Jena, Head of Environment Department, and colleagues Biswajit Parida, Shri Adish Jain. During the 21-day program, quizzes, drawing, essay writing, etc. competitions were organized among regular and contractual employees, students, self-help groups and women to create environmental awareness. The program organized at Hindalco Club was inaugurated by Dr. Satya Narayan Nanda, Regional Officer of Odisha Pollution Board Sambalpur Office, Unit Head Shri Debashish Mallick, and other guests by lighting the lamp. This year, the theme of World Environment Day is “End Plastic Pollution”. It was expressed that the environment, water, forests and biodiversity are facing global danger due to the increase in plastic waste.
Dr. Satya Narayan Nanda, in his speech, said that World Environment Day was started in 1972, now all the people have changed it and protected the environment. The staff present had made the public take a pledge not to use plastic. He had called upon everyone to work to maintain the ecological balance. Hindalco Hirakud’s environmental awareness program was well appreciated by the guests. On this occasion, Sambalpur Unit Head Shri. Mallick addressed the employees, public and students and called upon them to conserve water and electricity without wasting it. He expressed the view that it is the responsibility of everyone to protect the environment. Mr. Pratap Sahu, Biswas Shinde, Ranjan Kumar Jena, Arun Singh addressed the audience that everyone should help in balancing the environment. Just like the relationship between humans and nature, the environment can be protected by maintaining a relationship between humans and nature. The participants who succeeded in various competitions were awarded in this program. A short play “Environment is our responsibility” was staged for environmental awareness, which was very touching and moved the audience. This program was made successful by all departments of Hindalco Hirakud along with the Environment Department.
