PROF. (DR.) SURESWAR MOHANTY TO GET NSI LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Bhubaneswar, : Prof. (Dr.) Sureswar Mohanty, the first Dean of
the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, has been chosen to be
conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Neurological Society
of India (NSI) for 2025.
A distinguished neurosurgeon and academician, who has worked in
some of the most prestigious medical institutions in India and abroad, Prof.
(Dr.) Mohanty played a pivotal role in the establishment of IMS and SUM
Hospital, faculty of medical sciences of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be
University (SOA), in Bhubaneswar.
Prof. (Dr.) Mohanty, who did his MBBS from the S.C.B. Medical
College, Cuttack, went on to earn his M.Ch. in Neurosurgery at the All India
Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
Subsequently, he served as Professor and Head of Department of
Neurosurgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University
(BHU). He also served as Director of the institute.
Following his retirement from BHU, he returned to Odisha and helped
set up IMS and SUM Hospital and was appointed its founding Dean.
Prof. (Dr.) Mohanty has published around 150 scientific papers in
national and international journals significantly contributing to the
advancement of neurosurgical knowledge and practice. He has been the
recipient of numerous prestigious awards from leading national bodies such
as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Medical Council of India
(MCI), Neurological Society of India (NSI) and the National Academy of
Medical Sciences (NAMS).
He also served as visiting professor in several world-renowned
institutions including the Institute of Neurosurgery, London, the Budenko
Institute, Moscow, the Cleveland Clinic, USA and many other centers of
excellence worldwide.
Prof. (Dr.) Mohanty also received the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy Award,
India’s highest medical honor, which stands out as a testament to his
outstanding contributions in the field of neurosurgery and neuroscience
research.
He also held prominent leadership positions including President of the
UP Neurosciences Society and the Neurotrauma Society of India. Over the
course of his long career, he has mentored 30 M.Ch. students in
neurosurgery shaping the next generation of neurosurgical experts.
