KIIT-DU Strengthens Global Academic Ties with MoUs with Universities in Malta and Bulgaria

Bhubaneswar, July 1, 2025: In a major boost to its internationalisation initiative, KIIT-DU has signed MoUs with two prestigious institutions: the American University of Malta (AUM), Malta, and Burgas Free University (BFU), Bulgaria. The agreements mark a significant step toward expanding global academic cooperation, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and enhancing opportunities for students and faculty.

The MoU with the American University of Malta was signed in the presence of dignitaries from both institutions, including Prof. Ian Robson, President of AUM; Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS; H.E. Ms. Gloria Gangte, High Commissioner of India to Malta; and Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of KIIT. This partnership outlines a broad framework for collaboration, with both universities agreeing to facilitate student, faculty, and staff exchanges; joint research initiatives; study abroad and progression opportunities; and participation in ERASMUS projects. Other planned activities include the co-organisation of international conferences, exchange of academic publications, and support for short-term summer and winter school programs.

Similarly, KIIT’s MoU with Burgas Free University, Bulgaria, aims to enhance academic exchanges and develop joint educational programs. Signed by Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of KIIT, and Prof. Milen Batlov, Rector of BFU, this agreement sets out a framework for student and staff exchanges, collaborative program development, and the implementation of joint projects.

It seeks to explore collaboration at course level, for example articulation arrangements and Introducing double degree dimploma programmes.

The collaboration is expected to open new avenues for students and faculty of both institutions, enabling cultural exchange, research cooperation, and academic growth. It also represents a significant milestone in strengthening educational ties between India and Bulgaria.
