SII has provided Coronavirus vaccine to the govt for RS 200 per dose : Adar Poonawala

New Delhi, 12/1: The Serum Institute of India has started supplying the Coronavirus Vaccine, Covishield vaccine developed in partnership with Oxford-AstraZeneca to cities in various states of the country. On Tuesday, Serum has delivered vaccine doses in many cities including Delhi and Pune. The central government has recently approved the emergency use of Covishield. Serum CEO Adar Poonawalla said in an interaction with ANI that the first 10 crore vaccines we have made available to the Government of India at a special price of 200 rupees. This was the request of the Government of India and we want to help the common man, especially the poor and health workers. After 10 crore vaccines, the serum will sell to Covishield in the private market for Rs 1000 per vaccine.

He said that we have provided vaccines at a lower price to the Indian government, but the vaccine costs a little more than Rs 200, so we decided that we will not earn any profit. We will help the country and the Government of India with the first 10 million vaccines. Adar said that it is a historic moment that the supply of vaccine has started from our factory. Our main challenge is to make vaccines available to every citizen of the country. The owner of the serum said that many countries are writing a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office demanding the vaccine of the Serum Institute of India. Our effort is to keep everyone happy, as well as to take care of our country and population.
