Rourkela, 21/3 (AO Bureau): President Ram Nath Kovind today attended the 18th convocation of the NIT in Rourkela. This morning, the President left the palace for Rourkela. The President was accompanied by Governor Ganeshi Lal, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Sundergarh MP Joal Oram, and State Health Minister Naba Kishore Das.
Addressing the students, the President said that NIT had made a significant contribution to 25,000 students last year. Now those students have a lot to give back to society. He encouraged ordinary people as well to take part in solving this great task: “One of the things you and other people can do is keep up the pressure … there are going to be some difficult decisions for government”. Universities have the same responsibilities as industrial social responsibility. The President thanked the NIT for the improvement of five villages in the “Improved India” campaign. Women need to be stronger in education and technology. The Sun Temple in Konark is an excellent example of art and science and plays an important role in the independence of Odisha. “Graduation is an important lesson in every student’s life,” he said.
On the occasion, the President inaugurated the RSP and IGH Super Specialty Hospital in Rourkela. The President later honored individuals who have made significant contributions to various fields. Pramod Mishra for General Administration, Sitakant Mohapatra for Literature, and Kumar Mangalam Birla for Industrial Development were honored. In addition, 118 were awarded doctorates, three were awarded honorary DSC degrees, and four alumni were honored by the President at the ceremony.
