BCCI to lose Rs 2500 crore if IPL is not resumed: Sourav Ganguly

Mumbai, 6/5 (AO Bureau)The Indian Premier League is the largest cricket league in the world. The BCCI has earned crores of rupees on the strength of this league and its dominance in world cricket has increased. But due to Covid-19, the 14th season of this league has to be postponed in the middle and this is going to cause big financial loss to the world’s richest cricket board. BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly has even said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India could incur a loss of Rs 2500 crore if the remaining matches of IPL 2021 are not held.

However, in a conversation with The Telegraph, Sourav Ganguly refused to consider the postponement of IPL 2021 as a major setback for Indian cricket. He said that 31 matches of the tournament were left and its postponement is not a big shock. This will not affect the brand value of IPL. Ganguly said, ‘I will not call it a jerk. Don’t forget that Wimbledon and Olympics were not held last year as well. This is an unprecedented time and we need to move forward. We cannot do much in these conditions. We can only wait for the time to improve. ‘
