Chandigarh,23/7: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will attend the event on Friday where Navjot Singh Sidhu will formally take over as the state Congress chief. The Chief Minister’s media advisor confirmed his attendance at the event. Seeking to resolve his differences with the chief minister, Sidhu also wrote a letter urging Amarinder Singh to attend the event and said he had “no personal agenda”. Sidhu said, “You and all are aware of my resolve and commitment on the issues of Punjab and fulfilling the high command’s pro-people 18-point agenda for the welfare of every Punjabi.” Sidhu wrote, ‘As the eldest in our Punjab Congress family, I request you to kindly come and give your blessings to the new team.’
Ahead of the tweet by the Chief Minister’s media advisor, Kuljit Singh Nagra and Sangat Singh Gilzian, out of the four newly appointed working presidents of the party’s state unit, extended a formal invitation to the Chief Minister for the program to take over. More than 55 MLAs signed the invitation letter. Sidhu and Amarinder’s confrontation has been going on for some time now. Amritsar (East) MLA Sidhu had hit out at the Chief Minister for the sacrilege of the holy book. The Chief Minister had also opposed Sidhu being made the state president and said that he would not meet Sidhu until he apologized for the derogatory tweet against him.
