New Delhi, 23/7: Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Shantanu Sen was suspended for the remainder of the current session of the Rajya Sabha for his indecent conduct in the House. Upper House Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday announced the suspension of Shantanu Sen. When the House started sitting, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu referred to the incident on Thursday and termed it as indecent. The Chairman said that whatever happened yesterday definitely affected the dignity of the House.
It is worth noting that yesterday Information Technology and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was giving a statement in the House on the issue of alleged spying of Indians through the Israeli spyware Pegasus. At the same time, members of Trinamool Congress and some other opposition parties came near the podium creating a ruckus and started raising slogans.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress member Shantanu Sen snatched the copy of the statement from the hands of the Union Minister and threw it into pieces. Due to this situation, Vaishnav later placed a copy of the statement on the table of the House. Deputy Chairman Harivansh had requested the members who were creating a ruckus not to behave in an unparliamentary manner, but they were not listened to. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu expressed anguish over yesterday’s incident when the House began sitting today and announced the suspension of Shantanu Sen from the remaining period of the session.
