Mirabai Chanu’s silver may turn into gold

New Delhi, 26/7: India’s 26-year-old weightlifter Mirabai Chanu created history by winning the country’s first silver medal in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday. Competing in the women’s 49 kg category at the Tokyo International Forum, Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk) during her four successful attempts at the competition. At the same time, Hou Zhihui of China won the gold medal by lifting 210 kg and set a new Olympic record. At the same time, Indonesia’s Windy Kentika Ayesha won the bronze medal with a total of 194 kg.

Just two days after Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal, news is coming that the silver medal of this Indian player can be converted into gold. If this happens then it will be one of the biggest achievements for the Indian player. But how can that be?

According to the news of news agency ANI, China’s weightlifter Hou Jihui will be tested by the anti-doping authorities and if she fails the test then India’s Mirabai Chanu will be awarded a gold medal. According to a source, Hou Jihui was asked to stay in Tokyo and the test would take place. Testing is definitely happening.

However, the truth is that around 5,000 athletes are being tested multiple times in the Olympics and samples are being collected both inside and outside the competition. As such the chances of each of them testing positive are very less. Still, if Hoi tests positive, then Mirbai Chanu will be India’s first female Olympic gold medalist.
