Tokyo Olympics: ‘Maybe watching me from heaven…’ Neeraj Chopra dedicates gold to Milkha Singh

Tokyo, 7/8 (AO Bureau):The country’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has created history by winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He threw 87.58m in the final of his event on Saturday and gave the country its first Olympic gold medal in track and field athletics. He dedicated his gold medal to the legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, famous for ‘Flying Sikh’. Milkha had recently passed away after being infected with the deadly corona virus.

‘Army Man’ Neeraj Chopra gave India a chance to celebrate by winning the gold medal in Javelin Throw. After winning the gold medal, he walked around the field with the tricolor and celebrated it. This is India’s first gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics and the second overall gold medal in the individual event. Before Neeraj, veteran shooter Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics.

 

After winning the medal, Neeraj, who lives in Panipat, Haryana, said, ‘I dedicate this gold medal of mine to the great Milkha Singh. I had never thought of winning a gold medal, but wanted to do something different. I knew I would do my best today. I wanted to break the Olympic Games record.
