Tokyo, 8/8 (AO Bureau):The 32nd Olympic Games (Tokyo Olympics 2020), held amid the Covid-19 pandemic, ended with the closing ceremony on Sunday. The closing ceremony began with a video that summarized the 17-day events.
Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created history and won the country its first gold in athletics at the Olympics. After the victory of Neeraj, a resident of Haryana, when the national anthem of India was played, crores of countrymen became emotional.
Bronze medal winning wrestler Bajrang Punia raised the tricolor and participated in the closing ceremony. Some other Indian players were also present with him who were seen taking selfies.
The final chapter began with fireworks at the stadium in which the organizers expressed their ‘gratitude to the countless individuals’ who helped lead the Olympic Games to the closing ceremony. After this, Crown Prince Akishino of Japan and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach appeared in the official stand.
In the opening video of the closing ceremony, the focus was not on the records and scores but on the valiant efforts of all the players who took part in the rigorous bio-bubble getting the Kovid-19 tests done daily. The main message of the ceremony was that sports would open doors to a brighter future.
India can certainly look to a brighter future with seven medal best performances in which javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won its first gold after 13 years, which is also the country’s first medal in track and field at the Games. Apart from this gold, India also won two silver and four bronze medals.
