Afghan president may resign from the post

Kabul, 14/8: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani may resign from his post. Sources said that this step can be taken with the aim of stopping the ongoing attacks in various provinces of Afghanistan and reaching an immediate ceasefire agreement with the Taliban. Sources said Ghani may go to a “third country” with his family after his resignation. However, Amrullah Saleh, the first Vice President of Afghanistan, did not agree with this move.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani visited Mazar-e-Sharif on Wednesday as part of efforts to defend the city and held meetings with several government-affiliated militia commanders. According to Tolo News, while addressing the media here, he said, being your President, I assure you that my entire focus is on stopping violence and bloodshed. I cannot allow the war in Afghanistan to continue and ruin what we have achieved in 20 years.
