Heavy rainfall in New Delhi

New Delhi, 21/8: One day’s rain has broken all the records in Delhi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday that 139 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi, which is the highest rainfall in the month of August in the last 13 years within 24 hours. Along with this, the IMD has also issued an orange alert for the city. Heavy rains were recorded in many parts of the national capital region, bringing down the mercury and bringing respite to the people of Delhi from the sultry heat, officials said.

 

He said that according to the data of Safardjung Observatory, considered standard for Delhi, 139 mm of rain has been recorded in the national capital between 8.30 am on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday (period of 24 hours), while the Ridge The center recorded 149.2 mm of rain. He told that this is the first time in at least 13 years that so much rain has been recorded in a single day in the month of August. So far, the record for the highest rainfall in a single day during the month of August in Delhi is 184 mm, which was recorded on August 2, 1961.

 

 

Delhi’s temperature dropped due to rain

Officials said the minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, due to the rains. The relative humidity in Delhi is 100 percent. Meteorologists have forecast that the sky will remain cloudy on Saturday and there may be moderate rain. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to be around 30 degree Celsius. IMD has issued Orange Alert for Delhi on Saturday and Yellow Alert for Sunday.

 

 

Due to the rain, water logging has also arisen in many areas including Minto Bridge, Moolchand Underpass and ITO. Due to waterlogging, Delhi Traffic Police has closed several underpasses and is giving related information to the people through Twitter.
