New Delhi, 28/8: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife for questioning in a money laundering case related to an alleged coal scam in the state. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Abhishek Banerjee represents the Diamond Harbor seat in the Lok Sabha and is also the National General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Meanwhile, Banerjee hit out at the BJP government at the Centre, saying, “Those who think they can threaten us with ED, CBI, let me tell them, we will not bow down.” I challenge Amit Shah and BJP, if possible, stop TMC in Tripura.” Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned to appear before the investigating officer of the case here on September 6, while his wife Rujira has been given money A similar summon has been sent under the Prevention of Laundering Act (PMLA) and has been asked to appear on September 1.

Some other people connected with the case have also been summoned to appear on different dates next month, officials said. The Directorate had registered the case under criminal sections of the PMLA after going through an FIR of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) dated November, 2020.
