Unemployment rate increases to 10.3 percent

New Delhi, 10/9: The unemployment rate for all ages in urban areas rose to 10.3 percent in October-December 2020, as compared to 7.9 percent in the same months a year earlier. This figure has come out in the Periodic Labor Force Survey conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

Unemployment or unemployment rate (UR) is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons in the labor force. According to the Ninth Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS), the unemployment rate for all ages in urban areas stood at 13.3 percent in July-September 2020.

The survey found that the labor force participation rate for all ages in urban areas stood at 37.3 percent in the October-December, 2020 quarter. Whereas it was 37.2 percent in the same period a year ago and 37 percent during the July-September, 2020 quarter.
