Delhi, 29/10:Shreyas Iyer, who led Delhi Capitals to the finals of IPL 2020 under the captaincy, is preparing to leave Delhi Capitals. Actually Iyer wanted to lead the team and will also debut 2 new teams in IPL 2022. That’s why Iyer wants to come in the auction.
Iyer was ruled out due to injury from the first leg of IPL 2021 and Rishabh Pant took over the responsibility of Delhi Capitals in his absence. Iyer made a comeback in the second leg, but the captaincy remained with Pant as well. Delhi performed brilliantly in IPL 2022 under Pant’s captaincy. However missed the playoffs. Delhi topped the points table by winning 10 out of 14 matches, but in the playoffs, the team missed both Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2.
Iyer sees little prospect of Delhi
According to the news of the Times of India, Iyer wanted to lead the team and after Pant’s excellent captaincy this season, he sees little chance of it in Delhi Capitals. In IPL 2022, Ahmedabad and Lucknow will debut 2 new franchises and in view of this, Iyer will separate himself from Delhi and enter the auction.
Iyer’s journey with Delhi Capitals started in 2015 and in 2018 Iyer was handed over the captaincy after Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the captaincy in the middle of the season. After this, Iyer led the team in the best way and twice took the team to the playoffs. Under the captaincy of Iyer, Delhi played the title match of IPL 2020 against Mumbai Indians, but the team lost the match by 5 wickets.
