Odisha CM Announces Social Security Scheme For Newspaper Hawkers

Bhubaneswar, 30/11:Hawkers have an important role to play in disseminating information and news. In the dry, rainy, and cold seasons, their working lives begin before sunrise. In view of his role and struggle in connecting the public with the news, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik has announced a social security scheme for the newspaper’s newspaper hackers.

Under the scheme, social security will be provided to newspaper hawkers registered under the Odisha Unorganized Workers’ Social Security Board. Under the scheme, their families will be given Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental death and Rs 1 lakh in case of natural death. Similarly, the hackers who were completely disabled due to the accident will be given Rs 1.5 lakh and the Loss of both limbs will be given Rs 80,000 and the Loss of one limb will be given Rs 40,000.

 

In view of the financial hardships they face due to the coffin, it has been decided to provide special assistance to all registered newspaper hawkers by writing Rs 3,000 in two phases. The assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

 

The state government has decided to provide appropriate workshops at the district level to address this problem as hackers often face difficulties in getting to work.

 

The Chief Minister also directed the Department of Information and Public Relations to conduct a digital database of hawkers at the state and district levels and provide all identity cards to all hawkers at the district level.
