Bhubaneswar, 5/12: Because of the cyclonic storm ‘Jawad’, incessant showers have been battering the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha since yesterday. While the rainfall is expected to go on unabated across eastern India, the strength of the system in terms of wind speed has dropped sharply on Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that Jawad weaken into a deep depression on Saturday evening and will weaken further into a depression by Sunday morning.
According to IMD, the system lay centred over the west-central Bay of Bengal as of 5:30 pm IST today at about 180 km east-southeast of Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and 330 km south-southwest of Puri, Odisha. But in the next 12 hours, the system is likely to gradually weaken and shift north-northeastwards along the Odisha coast, reaching near Puri on the noon of December 5 as a depression. It will probably continue to weaken further and move north-northeastwards along the Odisha coast towards the West Bengal coast.
