Sharad Pawar praised Vinayak Sawarkar

Mumbai,6/12: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar said on Sunday that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar had a scientific approach towards Hinduism. Power said Savarkar was one of the first to promote temple entry reforms for Dalits. In his address on the concluding day of the All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in Nashik, Pawar said, “Savarkar had advocated the utility of cow’s meat and milk for human consumption. He was a rationalist. He spoke on this issue scientifically which cannot be underestimated.’ His remarks came a day after Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that BJP has nothing to do with the convention. Because there was no mention of Savarkar in the program.

Fadnavis had said that Savarkar had presided over both the Marathi Sahitya Sammelan and the Marathi Theater Conference and had also been the president of the Marathi Journalists Association. The BJP leader said, “He will probably be the only person who has achieved this feat, yet his name is missing from the entire event.” If it was done, why should we go there?

BJP created ‘needless’ controversy: Pawar

Pawar, however, said the BJP created “unnecessary” controversy. He told how Savarkar built a small temple in Ratnagiri and invited a Dalit to perform the rituals. Pawar said that this was done to give the message of social equality. In those days, Dalits were not allowed to go to temples. Handing over the charge of the temple was unimaginable. These are some aspects which show that Savarkar was scientific in nature.
