Kashmir, 14/2: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was on Monday stopped from stepping out of his residence in Srinagar in view of security concerns on the anniversary of the Pulwama attack, for which he lodged a strong protest. Got it done Sources associated with the National Conference said that Farooq Abdullah was to travel by road to Jammu, which is located at a distance of about 300 km.
According to sources, the officials concerned were informed about this itinerary five days ago, but they stopped Farooq Abdullah from coming out of his house. Farooq Abdullah, a three-time Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is the President of the National Conference and the current Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar.
Sources said that Farooq Abdullah managed to come out of his house in the afternoon and also traveled for some distance with a passerby, but after persuasion by the security team, he returned home in a police vehicle.
Police officials said on the condition of anonymity that there is a directive not to allow VIP movement on the anniversary of the Pulwama attack. On this day in the year 2019, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist rammed his explosives-laden car into a bus carrying security forces. 40 CRPF personnel were martyred in this attack.
