Supreme Court stays Center’s decision to ban MediaOne Channel

New Delhi, 15/3: The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Centre’s January 31 decision banning the telecast of Malayalam news channel ‘MediaOne’ on security grounds till further orders. On the other hand, the Center told the Lok Sabha that such private TV channels against whom action is taken by the government for allegedly promoting material harmful to national security, are given ample opportunity to make their stand clear.

During the hearing against the ban on telecast of ‘MediaOne’, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Vikram Nath said that the news channel will continue its work as it was doing before the ban on broadcasting. The bench is yet to decide whether to hand over the files to the channel on the basis of which the ban order was issued so that it can defend itself.
