J&K, 11/8: Three soldiers were killed, two others were injured when two militants carried out a suicide attack on an Army operating base camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri.
Both the fidayeen millitants were killed in the retaliatory action by the Army, officials said.
The militants while trying to sneak into a post in the dark at Pargal, Rajouri, were detected and engaged by alert troops. Both the militants were neutralised.
One officer, among the injured Army personnel in the terrorist attack, has been rushed for medical treatment.
16 Corps Commander Lt Gen Manjinder Singh is constantly monitoring the situation on the ground, as per the agency.
Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the location which is six kilometres from Darhal Police station.
The attack comes just four days ahead of Independence Day celebrations and at a time when security forces are already on high alert.
Last year several lethal attacks were carried out by the militants in Rajouri and Poonch districts, also known as Pir-Panjal region. A senior police officer said being Muslim-majority districts of Jammu region Pakistan wants to revive a lethal phase of militancy in the region.
“The Mughal Road which connects Rajouri-Poonch with the valley has become a major concern for the security forces and intelligence agencies. Militants infiltrating from Pakistan into Rajouri and Poonch find it easy to reach the Valley via Mughal Road. As a large number of trucks move on this road, it becomes easier for militant handlers to even transport weapons” he revealed.
