Major Grass Fire In Odisha’s Chilika Lake

Chilika, 13/4: Today a massive fire broke out near the Kalupada jetty inside the Odisha’s Chilika lake . The fire caught the Nala grass areas, which is home to many birds and fishing cats.The flame spread with the blowing of wind and the entire area was filled with smoke.

 

Forest officer from various ranges of Chilika wildlife division rushed to the spot and continuing to douse the flames. Chilika Wildlife Division DFO Amlan Nayak present on the spot and continuing to douse the fire. When asked to DFO about this,’ Our staff are trying to venture into the fire areas to douse the fire,” said DFO Mr Nayak .Though the cause of fire is unknown , wildlife officials suspected it to be man-made. Some miscreants might have set afire to the Nala grass that dries up in summer, he added. After control over the fire, there is no damage to fishing cat,

No boat was seen to have been burnt and  No migratory bird burnt told DFO Mr Nayak.
