WORLD EMERGENCY MEDICINE DAY OBSERVED AT SUM HOSPITAL

Bhubaneswar, May 29: World Emergency Medicine Day was observed at
the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here on Tuesday which was
marked by an international seminar on the subject.
The day-long seminar featured a dozen resource persons of who two were
from abroad.
The subjects discussed included ‘Journey of Emergency Medicine in India’,
‘Pediatric Emergency’, ‘Surgical Emergency’, ‘Obstetric Emergency’, ‘Management
of Neuro-Trauma’, ‘Acute Coronary Syndrome’, ‘Pain Management in Emergency
Set-up’ and ‘Nursing Practices in Emergency’.
The inaugural program was graced by eminent neurosurgeon and SOA’s
Principal Advisor (Health Sciences) Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, Dean of
IMS and SUM Hospital Prof. (Dr.) Sanghamitra Mishra, the hospital’s Medical
Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Pusparaj Samantasinhar and Head of department of
Emergency Medicine Prof. (Dr.) Sukadev Nayak.
The speakers included Dr. Jim Connolly, President, European Union for
Society of Emergency Medicine, United Kingdom, Dr. Luis Garcia-Castrillo Riesgo,
President Elect, European Union for Society of Emergency Medicine, Spain, Prof.
(Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Bhoi, Professor of JPN Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New
Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Maitreyee Mukherjee, Head of Department of Emergency
Medicine, PGMER, SSKM Hospital, Kolkata, Prof. (Dr.) Muralidhar Kanchi,
Department of Cardiology, Narayan Hrudayalaya, Bengaluru, Prof. (Dr.) Amita
Maheswari, Department of Gynaecology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and
Dr. A. Serma Subathra, Reader, College of Nursing, AIIMS, Bibinagar, Telengana.
More than 170 delegates attended the seminar while 280 others had
registered online. A walkathon was held in the morning to mark the day.
