Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia has placed the data in the House on the death of wild animals in the state. The Minister has given a written reply in the House that between July 1 and November 20, more than 40 elephants have died in the state, while 5 elephants and 200 wild animals have died. It is not clear, the minister said, “a departmental investigation is going on regarding the death of elephants and tigers in the state.” So far 26 people have been arrested in the elephant death case. In addition, 2 forest guards and one forester were found.
