Earthquake in Japan and Philippines measuring 5.1 and 5.7 respectively, scared locals flee homes

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has struck northeastern Japan. Strong tremors were felt in Miyagi and Fukushima, but no tsunami warning has been issued. People were seen fleeing their homes in fear. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake had a magnitude of 5.1 at 4:10 am. on Saturday. There were no immediate reports of any casualties or major damage. However it is worth mentioning that a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Philippine island of Mindanao on Saturday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). According to local authorities, no abnormalities were found at the nuclear power plants in the area after the earthquake. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 40 kilometers in the Fukushima area. It is worth noting that the Philippines is located on the Pacific Ocean’s ‘Ring of Fire’, which is very sensitive to earthquakes and volcanoes. Of the 24 active volcanoes in the country, the Kanlaon volcano is said to be the biggest danger to local residents. This is because volcanic eruptions and seismic activity are often seen here.  A large explosion occurred at the Kanlaon volcano in the Philippines recently. About 87,000 people were immediately evacuated and taken to safe places due to the eruption of the Kanlaon volcano. In March 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and a large tsunami destroyed many areas.
