Balasore, January 7, 2025 – TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint
venture of Tata Power and Government of Odisha remains committed to delivering reliable
and uninterrupted power supply to its customers across northern Odisha. While the company
has made significant progress in providing consistent electricity, the persistent issue of
electricity theft continues to obstruct the quality of service. Since FY 2021-22, TPNODL has
registered over 129,000 complaints related to power theft and uncovered 362 MW of stolen
electricity. These illegal practices not only lead to financial losses but also contribute to
challenges such as low voltage and power disruptions, which ultimately affect the experience
of honest consumers.
TPNODL has been proactive in identifying and curbing these illegal practices by forming 34
special teams across its service area. These teams, along with the company's dedicated central
monitoring unit, carry out regular inspections and utilize advanced technologies to detect and
prevent theft. In FY 2021-22, the company prevented the theft of 73.23 MW of electricity,
followed by 101.12 MW in FY 2022-23, and 100 MW in FY 2023-24, demonstrating its
relentless commitment to tackling this issue. In FY 2024-25, as of now it has already
managed to prevent power theft of 63.83 megawatt.
The company urges consumers to report any suspicious activities or illegal power usage by
calling the dedicated helpline number 9438906002. Stringent actions are being taken against
those found guilty of power theft, ensuring that the burden does not fall on honest consumers
who rely on a steady power supply for their daily needs. By focusing on curbing power theft,
TPNODL aims to not only protect its resources but also provide uninterrupted and quality
electricity to all.
TPNODL remains dedicated to ensuring a sustainable and efficient power distribution system
in northern Odisha, and will continue its efforts to eliminate power theft, thereby supporting
the growth and well-being of the region.
