Harichandanpur, January 10, 2025: Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), Bamnipal
recently conducted an awareness programme in the nearby villages to combat
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs).
As part of the programme, Nukkad Nataks (street plays) were organised in
Mahabirapasi, Alutuma, and Tentuligotha under Harichandanpur block to create
awareness on the prevention of malaria, dengue, and filariasis.
The Nukkad Natak performances vividly depicted real-life scenarios, highlighting
mosquito breeding grounds, symptoms of these diseases, and preventive
measures. During the programmes, TSF team emphasised on the importance of
using mosquito nets & cleanliness, and also highlighted the importance of
seeking immediate medical attention when experiencing fever symptoms.
To foster community ownership, more than 100 members participated in a
collective oath, pledging to maintain a clean environment, eliminate mosquito
breeding sites, utilise mosquito nets, and seek timely medical treatment, if
required.
The programme’s success is evident in the strong community commitment
demonstrated through the enthusiastic participation. This signifies a substantial
step towards proactive disease prevention and a healthier future for the
community.
Tata Steel Foundation plans to initiate similar activities in nearby regions,
continuing its efforts to improve the well-being of rural communities through
targeted awareness programmes.
