OSRTC bus overturns in Angul district; 2 killed, over 20 critical

Angul: At least two persons were killed while over 20 others sustained critical injuries after the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus in which they were traveling overturned in Angul district this afternoon. Initial reports suggest that the OSRTC was on its way to Angul from Baripada with a total of 47 passengers. However, it overturned after skidding off the road near the Gaham village of Angul district. Soon, a team of local police along with the villagers and passers-by carried out the rescue operation. Till the filing of this report, they had recovered the bodies of two passengers from the ill-fated bus and rushed at least 20 others, who had sustained critical injuries, to the hospital in ambulances for treatment. The rescue operation is still underway as several passengers are trapped under the the overturned bus, said sources adding that while the exact cause of the OSRTC bus accident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the government bust overturned after its driver lost control over the wheels of the bus. A huge crowd also have gathered at the spot to see the bus accident. Some of them even are extending their helping hands to the rescue team.
