e-Detection system for vehicle insurance to be in place from today in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The e-Detection system will be implemented in the 22 toll gates in Odisha from February 1, today. If the vehicle is not insured then an e-challan will be deducted in the name of the owner of the vehicle. All the necessary steps for the rolling out of the e-detection system for vehicle insurance have been done by the State Transport Authority  (STA). This system will be implemented in all the 22 toll gates in Odisha. As per Section 146 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every motor vehicle should have a valid insurance. It the insurance is not done then the vehicle owner will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 or will be subject to a punishment of three months as per section 196. Repeat offenders will be subjected to a fine of RS 4,000 and jail of 3 months. Many private and commercial vehicles violate the law and do not get their vehicles insured. As a result the family of the deceased in road accidents is exempted from receiving the compensation. The state government has expressed its concern.
