Youth creates Lord Jagannath’s Padma Besha using ice cream sticks

Puri: Young artist Biswajit Nayak has created a model of Lord Jagannath’s Lotus Attire (Padma Vesha) using 1475 new ice cream sticks. He took 4 days to make this Besha. He has created a 3-foot tall and 2-foot wide statue of Lord Jagannath’s rare Padma Besha statue. In his creation the artist has made lotus petals, stems, etc. as used in original Padma Besha. To create this statue, he used new ice cream sticks along with paint, glue, wood and garlands. He had previously created Mahaprabhu’s Nagarjuna Besha and Gaja Uddharana besha using ice cream sticks. And now, taking inspiration from his mother, he has created Mahaprabhu’s Padma Besha for the first time. Bishwajit said that those who cannot go to the temple to witness the rare attire of Mahaprabhu can experience the same by seeing this attire through this idol. The young artist has created the Padam Besha today because this rare attire of Lord Jagannath is being held in the Srimandira today in Puri. As per tradition Mahaprabhu Lord Jagannath is attired with the Padma Besha between Pratipada of the bright fortnight of the Magha month and the Sri Panchami if there is either a Wednesday or a Saturday. Today, Mahaprabhu has been attired with the Padma Besha according to the Badasinghar method. In this rare attire, the Chaturdha murti is adorned with lotus flowers from head to toe. The Sri Jagannath culture researchers have said that by getting a glimpse of this rare attire of Mahaprabhu, all the desires of devotees get fulfilled. In this Besha, there is also a tradition of offering Khir made in Padma rice to Mahaprabhu.
