Bhubaneswar: A snake somehow got its head stuck in a soft drink cane today in the capital city of Odisha. It was a 5-foot-long rat snake whose head got trapped in a cane. The incident was witnessed near the Mangala temple in Prashanthi Vihar of Patia area in Bhubaneswar. The snake had stuck its head in the cane so much that it could not get out. It was wriggling in pain. The local boys saw the snake writhing in the bush and called up the snake helpline members. On receiving the news, Snake Help Line member Niharika Mohapatra reached the spot and first carefully rescued the snake from the bush. Later, she started effort to take out the cane off the snake head without harming the reptile. The problem was if effort will be made by squeezing the cane, its neck or head could be cut off. So, Niharika cut the cane with a metal cutter and the snake was freed. It was a 5-foot-long rat snake. Niharika explained to the boys who were present there that the snake was not venomous and that the snake could remain in this place. No one would be harmed, but rather benefited, she explained. Then, in the presence of the boys, Niharika released the snake far away from the scene of the incident.
