Youth climbs atop 132 KV electric tower to kill self, rescued safely after 2.5 hours

Kamakhyanagar: High voltage drama unfolded after a youth climbed atop a 132 KV electric tower and denied to get down the tower. The incident happened in Badamuktapasi village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district. The youth reportedly stood over the 70-metre tall pole for over 2.5 hours. The youth has been identified as Sania Mandal of Badamuktapasi village. Later on it was found that the youth had consumed alcohol and under the influence of the intoxicant the youth had climbed the 132 KV electric tower. He had climbed over the tower on Monday afternoon. Locals rushed to the spot to bring him down. Tension among the locals was seen after the alcoholic youth denied to climb down from the pole. People rushed to the spot to persuade the youth to get down from the electric pole. The youth sat on the tower for around 2.5 hours. A rescue team reached the spot to bring him down from the tower top. On seeing the rescue operators climb the tower, the youth threatened to jump from the tower. Later on with the efforts of the rescue team and the persuasion of his parents and locals the youth was brought down safely. He said that his parents used to scold him for drinking alcohol, frustrated with their taunts he took such a step. He further said that, he had consumed more alcohol today and wanted to kill himself.
