NTPC, Talcher Kaniha Hosts State-Level Mock Exercise on Chemical Disaster

Kaniha : NTPC, Talcher Kaniha, in collaboration with the state of Odisha, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and NDRF, Government of India, will conduct a state-level mock exercise on chemical disaster on 28th February 2025.

For this the table-top exercise was done on 27th of February 2025 delegates from different PSU and State Administration aimed to assess and strengthen the state’s preparedness and response mechanisms in the event of a chemical disaster.

Shri A. Balan, Member (Planning) CEA,  Shri A. K Sehgal, NTPC (Talcher Kaniha), Shri Vijay Goel, ED (Safety) CC, and A.K. Verma, major General cum NDMA Coordinator graced the occasion.

Key highlights of the exercise included a comprehensive briefing on the mock exercise by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which set the stage for the simulation. This was followed by a detailed review of the Disaster Management Plans (DMPs) for both the Talcher Super Thermal Power Station (TSTPS) and Angul, to evaluate preparedness and coordination. Scenario-based discussions were conducted to simulate real-time response mechanisms, allowing participants to identify gaps and refine strategies. The exercise culminated in a site visit, providing an opportunity for hands-on assessment of the effectiveness of existing response mechanisms and fostering constructive dialogue on improvements.”
